Possible Song Lyrics

So... as a writer and an okay singer,
I've been thinking about writing songs this whole year.
I'm not sure if I'd write for myself
or write songs and give them to other singers I know.
But in any case,
I'd like to run a few random lines by you guys
that I've been saving up all year.
Some lines I've grouped in my mind as belonging to the same song,
others are just floaters.
Very beginning level right now.

Anyway,
without further adieu, here you go.

We have to stop doing this. And by we, I mean something very subjective, something vague.

Miscommunication is never fun... unless someone gets hurts.

People who think they're insightful are assholes. So I guess I'm an asshole.

They shouldn't know how we creep, see their every move; because then they'll study our doings, and we don't need that.

When u ignore someone, sooner or later they start to ignore you.

Give me a sandwich, and I, sir, will be one satisfied woken up drunk person.

I'm just sayin though, like yo... why are we even here right now?

You wanna say no, but you wanna say yes. So instead you say nothing at all.

When I start thinking, it's about you. Wishing that you knew, but you ain't got a clue.

I’m a liar. I have all the answers.

I choke on words I'm not sure I want to say.

And then we play music, cause we don't know how to say it. Let's leave it to the professionals

I stay up til 4am not to work. No. I stay up to think, because otherwise I'd just go crazy.

We have daylight conversations in the dark and midnight talks during sunny afternoons.

I would be nowhere without my friends, and my friends get me nowhere.

My friend told me to get my life together. My life is together... it just has a lot of cracks in it.

Been single so long, I'm desperate to try something new. We're after the same goal, so I'll just partner with you.

As you see, they all need some work.
Some are awkwardly worded and don't flow.
Hopefully I can get started on one next week when I have more time
[on top of the other projects I have lined up.]
Let me know what you think.
I'm also open to suggestions and collaborations.
Word.

PS
In case you couldn't tell,
I'm leaning more towards alternative/folk music.
R&B songwriting is kinda all the same to me,
the usual "in the club" "girl I want you" "why you cheating" "let's get down" music.
I feel like it's constricting.
I might switch it up though.
It's yet to be decided.

Paper Bag Lunch

At my elementary school,
most kids who brought their own lunch got made fun of.
1) My private school served hot and cold lunches every day.
2) Bringing your own lunch was a sign of extreme poverty amongst poverty.
3) The lunches stained the brown paper bag and was usually a soggy PBJ or dry Ham sandwich.

I was one of those kids that bought their own lunch...
but I was not mad fun of.
Why you ask?
Cause I had the official red Sesame Street plastic lunch box,
later to become a blue nylon bag.
I had a thermos too, with leftovers from the night before
or Chef Boyardee or a Hot Pocket.
Kids used to be jealous as all hell when I whipped out
my stainless steel thermos.
I would have 2 juice boxes,
an apple and some sugary snack.
....yeah, I was spoiled as shit. :-)

Bringing my own lunch stopped in high school,
when I felt like I got to old for it.
Besides, my high school had a reasonable selection of food.
I could get a chicken salad, mozzarella sticks, a snack and a snapple for like $5.50.
Ah.... those were the days.

Now in college,
it's like $10 for a cheeseburger and a drink.
Same thing for if you go off campus to eat.
Unless you going to a dollar menu,
you ain't spending less than $6, and that doesn't include a drink.

Now, I'm the kind of guy that as long as his balance
says $100 or more, I could careless about spending money.
But as soon as my checking account says $99.99,
I start to freak the fuck out.

Over the summer at work,
I've eaten out at least 4-5 out of 7 days a week.
That's no bueno for my wallet,
not to mention my waistline.
So... I'm deciding to eat in more.
Instead of goin to the cafe,
go back home and make food.
Try to go food shopping at least every other week
to keep your shelves stocked... like a stock boy.
If you work, bring your lunch with you.
I know my mom does it.
Ain't no shame in her saving game.
Please believe that.

Hopefully I'll continue this past my next paycheck
and into the coming school year.
Cause being broke off lunch is not cute.

How to: Enjoy the Job You Have

I'm writing this as I get paid overtime.
I haven't had a day off since the day after my birthday.
I've been working long hours.
I haven't been able to see my other friends in days.
And yet... I couldn't be happier.

We all have our dream jobs/career.
We also have the jobs we must hold before we get there.
So it is important we find the silver lining.

For me, it's my coworkers.
They are... hilarious.
We're kinda all weird in a different way,
but we come together to help each other get through the day.
Honestly, without them I would go insane.

Now... if you don't have relatable coworkers or work alone,
hopefully you enjoy the work you're doing.
That's kind of the point of a dream job.

If you have neither,
I suppose money is the motive.
It's not the best motive,
but if it's helping you stack bills to the ceiling,
then by all means, get that CREAM.

If you don't have great coworkers,
a job you enjoy,
or a reasonable salary...
you best start searching for a new line of work.
Cause you're liable to lose your damn mind soon.

TLDNR

"Too long; did not read"
is becoming a threat to our society.
I should know; I'm a victim.

As a blogger,
I'm an avid browser of other blogs.
I love to see what other people are writing.
But if a post is too long or has few breaks,
I'll say to myself "....yeah, I'll come back to this later."
I open up a new tab and continue to stumble about the web.
After about half an hour,
I'll be honest with myself and just close the tab.

Lately, I've noticed it's spilling over into real life.
I'm a writer. I should be reading more.
I kinda like to read.
But books... are so long. haha
I read (basically) all my books in high school.
College? ..."Can I sparknote this?"
or "I'm sure there ain't no quiz tomorrow."

As part of this "instant" generation,
we're used to getting what we want right away.
When we have to put forth effort to receive information,
we spend our time on finding a short route
instead of taking the long road ahead of us.

It's something I've been attempting to overcome for a while now.
I've contemplated making my own post longer...
but I know for sure I'd lose readers. haha
Besides, I don't always have time for it.

But yeah...
in short, stop skipping long readings.
You never know what you might get out of it.

Bubble Bath

That right, I said it.

For the first time in at least 3 years,
I took my first bubble bath.
And it was wonderful.

I went to CVS right after work to buy the bubble bath.
I'd been fiending for bubbles in my bath for a while now,
but after my day today, I really needed it.

The guy who rung me up looked at me funny,
I almost said I was buying it for my girlfriend...
but I didn't care.
I'm a grown ass man.
If I wanna buy bubble bath, than shit... I'm gonna.

Once I got back home and showered,
I begun running the water for my bath.
Than I added the bubble powder.
At first it didn't take, and I got tight.
So I add more... and then it took.
It was almost a bubble overflow.
I was overwhelmed.

I'll pause the scene know
to tell you I enjoyed a strong mixed drink during my bath
...because I'm 21 now. haha

But no. In all honesty,
I really enjoyed that bath.
I had music blasting.
I had a drink on tap.
I had my mind on relax.
It was wonderful.

A quick aside.
There's nothing like a bath
to make you notice your body.
Nothing but water and buoyancy.
You either love it or hate it.
Hopefully you love it.

But yeah... haha
I highly recommend it,
especially if you had a hard day at work.
Nothing like coming home
and taking a nice long bath
to rethink your day
and calm yourself.
Trust me.
I intended to only take a 30 minute bath.
It turned into 90 minutes.
I'm surprised I'm not pruney. haha

The 21st

So, this past Monday was my 21st birthday.
Now, I know what you're thinking.
"Ooohh. That's why he hasn't posted these last two days."
No. I was busy all day Monday,
and I just didn't feel like it on Tuesday.

Honestly... I kinda took it easy.
...ok. Maybe not easy.
But I definitely noticed how I was pacing myself.
Do you know how hard it is to pace yourself
when everyone around you is willing to buy you a drink/shot?
Yeah, I know. I surprised myself too.
I can still remember most everything...
up until bout 3am, but that's understandable. haha

But yeah...
in all honesty,
I feel a bit more mature,
which is surprising. haha
It's like, I know my limits.
I know what I have to do.
I see that's it time to grind.

Now, does this necessarily mean I have to grow up?
No, not at all. I'mma still be young at heart like a cliche.
But I'll couple that with a strong drive.
I think that's the best way to stay forever young,
which is something I've been tryna figure out for the past 2 weeks.

But yeah.
I'm 21 now.
And while I know it, I still forget.
It'll take some getting used to,
but so did anytime I turned a new age.
It's all about adjustment.

This is the Barbershop!

Yes. After 8 long months of afro,
I finally got the opportunity to have my wool chopped off.
Unfortunately, it was not sold.
The market for black sheep wool is surprising low.

Anyway....
While I was sitting in the chair,
I listened to the barbers and waiting customers.
They were funnier than a Barbershop movie.
[I know ya'll are just loving these wack jokes.]

I kind of categorized them as well,
because I feel as if most (black) barbershops have these characters.

The owner - No matter his age, most everyone loves and respects this guy. His personality is not a certain mold, but one thing he has in coming with other barbershop owner is his love for the neighborhood.

The old dude - If everyone else is busy, he's usually the one kicking it in his chair. He'll say shit like, "That boy/girl ain't have no reason to be up over there no how." He'll join any conversation if he's bored. He means well.

The wise crack - He's usually the one making all the bad jokes. He's also the guy everyone wishes would shut up.

The fat guy - For some reason, this guy thinks he's the shit. Like he can get any woman he wants. The dude is rude as shit too. But hey, he usually has finger on the pulse of old school or current hip-hop and is funnier than the wise crack.

The soul brother - If he's kinda dark skinned, he sports a mini, well-kept fro. If he's light skinned, he'll have a fade. He's usually the philosophical one. Most likely the old dude and owner's favorite because he agrees with them the most.

Now, some of ya'll may not agree with this character breakdown.
And that's legit.
Because I don't frequent barbershops like that.
As my best friend likes to joke,
my mom gave me bowl cuts until I left for college.
I don't care she usually hooked me up.
The main reason she started cutting my hair though
was because that alcohol they spray on you after a haircut
usually irritated my skin and made it break out.

But one thing is for sure:
a barbershop is definitely essential to the community.
Kids grow up in barbershops.
It's were forums about world and community event are held.
Drug fronts are behind them. [I'm joking... I think.]

Anytime I walk in a barbershop,
everyone's usually friendly to me.
I'm a shy guy [when I first meet people],
so I might not reciprocate the love like I'd like.
I want to belong to one of these communities,
call one of them a home in a sense.
I just haven't found one yet.
Besides, I only get my hair cut evert 3-4 months anyway.

In any case,
my love for barbershops have grown a little.
That much I can say.
Now I just have to venture into a white barbershop.
Haha. I always feel like they'd fuck my hair up,
not know how to deal with "black hair" and "nigga naps" and what not.
One of these days though... one of these days. haha
