It's most recording artists biggest fear.
When a song leaks over the internet,
can't present it the way they wanted.
Let's be honest,
a track's success can depend on when it drops.
If it comes out when there's already a plethora of hot tracks hot,
than chances are it'll flop,
or at the least not sell as well as it should.
Sometimes the track isn't even finished all the way.
It's a premature version and now it's out for everyone to hear.
There are times when it'll do fine,
but other times, it sucks
and people will think of it anytime the official version is played.
The biggest worry is a whole album leaking.
It happens most with hip hop.
I feel as if hip hop heads are always hungry for more.
We take one song or album,
bump it for a bit,
and then it's on to the next one.
Myself, I'm always cruising the internet looking for new tracks.
Just 30 minutes ago I copped the new Eminem & Weezy track.
[pause. When did Wayne record that? Thought his ass was in jail.
...did he rap over the phone like Shyne did? haha]
Obviously when the album leaks,
sells are gonna go down.
Though musicians play, sing, and/or rap for the art,
they still tryna see a fat check.
I mean, everyone wants to make money doing what they love.
Sometimes people will still buy an album after they hear the leaked version.
They'll often listen to the leak to decide whether or not it's hot.
If they aren't feelin it, then they won't cop it [*cough cough* Drake *cough*]
So what am I tryna to say...
I guess... downloading leaked music isn't all bad.
It's like getting a free sample.
Artists will sometimes leak their music on purpose just to build hype around it.
But at the end of the day,
if your a true fan and supporter of music,
you'll buy the official cuts.
[only the good shit, though.]
Word.
